Thailand Day Five: Little Things Thursday

I’m going big for Little Things Thursday today with a huge photo share! Additionally, I’m going to host my Thailand giveaway today, so hold on to your hats! I’m going to make the giveaway super simple.  Simply leave a comment and you are entered.  I’ll pick a comment number at random and that person will be the winner of my Thai box of surprises!! Sound fun? I’ve got some super fun things to share with one winner!

So day five had us touring a famous Thai temple called Wat Pho.  Wat is the Thai word for temple.  Wat Pho is the home of The Reclining Buddha.  I think this Buddha is best summed up by one of my travel companions who said, ” I don’t think I was prepared for the size of this.” She was referring to the size of the Buddha. You just don’t know until you know. Wat Pho seems to be a mix of traditional Thai Buddhism with some Chinese influence. Wat Pho is also the birthplace of the traditional and somewhat painful Thai massage.  You can’t leave Thailand without one.

To enter the site, you must remove your shoes and you must be dressed modestly.  Otherwise it’s the “Lime Green Coat of Shame” for you.  We were already in the know on that one.

If you are ever in Thailand this is a great stop that tends to be less crowded that some of the bigger temples. You can get there by bus, taxi, or river taxi. We took the latter.  A temple visit is a great cultural study to help you understand the roots of Thai life.

Okay friends, your turn to share. To join the fun simply: Link back, grab your permalink, link up and mingle. Don’t forget to leave a comment if you would like to enter the drawing for my box of Thai goodies. You won’t be disappointed. I’m keeping it a surprise for the winner, and maybe he or she will share on their blog later??? I think that would make a fun post for them! Or for those without blogs, maybe you would share on Facebook for others to see?

I’ll announce the winner next week!

Little Things Thursday: The Jet Lag Edition

Hello Friends! I’m back from Thailand and am in the throes of readjusting to this time zone once again.  I’m doing fairly well with jet lag, but I’m definitely less productive right now. So, word on those jet lag pills I mentioned a couple weeks ago is that they definitely have lessened my symptoms.  What once was a week adjustment has turned in to 3 days, roughly.

I’m sharing just one little teaser today, but I will be sharing all my images sorted by days.  I think that is probably the easiest way to share them.

I found this lovely Thai lady at Jim Thompson House in Bangkok. I’ll be sharing more about this tomorrow.

I’m happy to be back with you lovelies this week, so let’s get the party started!

Little Things Thursday

Hello and welcome once again to Little Things Thursday! I’m still in Thailand and I honestly don’t have anything to report about my trip today because I scheduled this post before I left! 🙂

And, I’m totally recycling this image!

If you follow me on Instagram, you can see what’s happening on the trip in real-ish time. It’s more like #latergram-ing since I have to wait for a wifi spot to post.

Thank you for being here today, and I do hope you will come follow me @ kim_littlebylittle to see a little bit of Thailand. I’ll be back home on Tuesday and resume a normal blogging schedule then! I hope I have lots of images of Thailand to share with you!

Little Things Thursday

Good morning! The day is here.  I’m leaving for Thailand today! I think I have to let that sink in for a minute.

It’s been 7 years since I have moved from Thailand to the States. In many ways, I thought I wouldn’t ever get the opportunity to go back.  In other ways, I knew there must be more than just a clean break from the years invested.

The latter came true.

I’m a mixture of excited and apprehensive. It’s really hard to leave the family behind. I’m just so used to them being right here.  I’m used to being right there.

I’m mustering up all my courage right now. I’m putting on my brave face. I’ve got the “Mommy Knots” in my belly.

Praying people, I need you!

Come along with me, friends.  I’ll be gramming my trip @ kim_littlebylittle.  I apologize for blowing up your feeds in advance.   It’s for my kids and husband…and those friends that love me enough to let me annoy them.  #sorrynotsorry 🙂

Today, keep me company at the airport and while I’m jet-lagging.  I’ll be checking in when I have access to wi-fi!

First stop Seoul.

I’ll be back in the States October 14, but we will keep the party rolling here next week, too!

Little Things Thursday

Gah! The rush is on here.  I leave for Thailand in one week. Next Thursday morning I will be making my way to the airport to catch the very long flight to Bangkok.  We will leave Atlanta and fly 13+ hours to Seoul and then another 6 on to Bangkok.

As you can imagine, there is much to do to get ready combined with my normal work load.  I’ll be glad for those “quiet” flight hours to recharge, if that is possible.

A few scenes of life around here this past week are:

1. Ugandan paper beads from Kanzi as gifts for some of our friends in Thailand. If you are looking for some unique gifts with a cause, check them out.

2. Editing my latest photo session to 80’s music.

3. A sneak peek from the session!

4. Homeschool continues to go on.  The most challenging part of the day is teaching multiple math levels at the same time.

5. In between arguments the kids do find ways to play well together.

6. The mornings have turned cool, and have been absolutely lovely.

7. Fall was heralded with a pot of minestrone soup.

8. I finally shopped for unrestrictive flight outfits.  I found some really cozy and trendy “sweatpants” that will be perfect.  They aren’t as bad as they sound, because seriously sweatpants sound awful outside of the house, don’t they? But at the end of the day all I can think of is 21 hours… in economy.

9. 8  7 days to go.

We will be having Little Things Thursday next week, and the Thursday after that as planned. So I hope you will come keep me company while I’m jet-lagged in Bangkok!

Let’s mingle!

From a Distance

From a distance we will all have enough.

No hungry mouths to feed.

That’s right.  Half a world away.  I’ll still make your dinner.  It’s my travel insurance.

16 days to go to departure and I’m finally over the lingering cold.  I’m spending them wrapping up all the loose ends that make my leaving a little easier. I’ve been making freezer meals for the last two days so that my family can eat well when I am gone. And, well, making this investment means that my husband is more apt to say yes to more trips if I don’t leave him in the lurch.

I’m no big dummy.

I’ve made pumpkin bread with freshly pureed pumpkin to freeze for breakfasts.  I’ve made 5 crock pot meals and one casserole. My freezer is full of love… and insurance premiums.

The beer?  Just a experiment gone horribly wrong.  I hate beer.  The Punkin Ale sounded promising.  I still hate beer.

So yep, these next two weeks are all about getting ready.  There is shopping, packing, schooling, scheduling blog posts, and with a side of freaking out a tad.

In a good way.

Little Things Thursday

Happy Thursday, Friends!  I know that today is a day of remembrance and sorrow that is forever etched in our minds. The memory that comes to the forefront of my mind is holding my firstborn at 6 weeks old and thinking, “What is this world that she is going to be raised in”?  I really wasn’t sure how to tackle today, but then I thought that the best defense against nightmares is to shine a light on all those little happy moments.

You know what brings me a little happy?

Instagram.  I’m totally abusing it right now.  I have some portrait sessions coming up, plus all the travel photography to come.  I think I’m storing up my editing energy.   At any rate, I just love the ability to capture my days so easily. It’s kind of a blessings log, if you think about it.  If you purpose it to be.

Like warm soup when you are sick.  The joy of preparing for a much anticipated trip. The battle of the flight socks. ^^^These win. Happy stripes.

September’s Birchbox (aff link) had perfect travel sized beauty products that I’m chucking in my carry-on.

For bonus happy, have you tried hyperlapse by Instagram yet? I’m looking forward to playing with this in Thailand to bring it to life for those following along.  Speaking of that, I’d love for you to come find me at kim_littlebylittle on Instagram! I’ll be sharing primarily there while traveling. And, I love finding new friends that shine a light for me.  The world’s been a little scary lately, so let’s keep shining a light in the dark.

Your turn to share!

I Really Want It

I’m feeling the world go round

It’s spinning me upside down

I’m finally homeward bound

I really want it.

Yep…this song is pretty perfect for where I am.  I love where I am! I love where I am with my family and our life callings.

And, not but…And…I’m really loving this gift of being able to take a little time to go.  My nervousness and my excitement are fairly equal.  I’m only nervous about not taking my family along and not being the keeper of all the things.

It’s a mother’s prerogative.

Yet, I can trust the One who is the real keeper of all things and I can freely enjoy this gift! Not that I won’t be a nervous Nelly from time to time. See above.

Thailand is such a part of my story…our story.  It’s really hard to explain to those who haven’t lived it. But if you have lived somewhere really special, you know what I mean.

Some of the first words spoken to me after leaving Thailand were, “You’ll get over it.”  I wasn’t looking to get over anything, and so I haven’t.  Moved forward?  Yes.  Change of direction? Yes.  Content? Yes.

Over it?   It doesn’t need getting over.

I’m so looking forward to taking friends along and showing them this topsy-turvy-chaotic place that I love and once called home.  I hope they bring home the souvenir of loving it, too!

After the shock, of course! But, that’s half the fun.

Little Things Thursday

Welcome to Little Things Thursday once again, Friends!  I hope that this week has been good to you.  News this week has been on the bleak side, and we could all use some little somethings to smile about.

I began to go shopping for things to wear while traveling this fall.   Thailand is pretty darn close to the equator, so summer clothing will be non-negotiable.  It’s the perfect time to hit the end of summer sales for the things I need.  However, even with sales, there were a couple hurdles with shopping.

travel clothes-web

I did find a few things, but I will need clothes for 12 days…and those clothes need to be within certain guidelines.  Shopping for what I need made me realize how much skin we like to show around here.

I need tops that cover my shoulders, and dresses that both cover my shoulders and reach the knees.  And the items mustn’t be for fuddy duddies (personal guideline).   That’s kind of a tall order if you look around at what is available.  Shorts aren’t worn in public, and I don’t want pants with heavy fabrics.   I bought what I could today, and now I’m scratching my head on where I’m going to find the rest.

I was counting on you, Loft.

It’s not going to be found in my closet, sadly.  My closet is full of heavy denim, and sleeveless tops and dresses.  I’m not giving up, though. There are more sales racks to scour before the fall clothing arrives in full force, but I better hurry. The summer clothing sections are growing small.

Even with this little light and momentary “trouble”, its fun to begin tangible preparations for travel!

What’s making you smile this week?

Summer’s end

This Monday morning starts our last week of summer.  Summer wasn’t particularly kind this year, but as it goes sometimes after a season of hardships the reminders of goodness come.

This last week was simply that.  Many reminders of goodness and care came to tend my weary heart.

end of summer2014

I don’t like to be preachy, but God just stopped me in my tracks and reminded me that He is taking care of so many details in His timing.  I saw that this week so clearly.

There were rainbows of promise.  While I don’t read into every rainbow as a specific promise to me and my situations, this one was a comfort to me.  I had to stop and capture it.

There were the best chocolate chip cookies known to man.  I got to lick the spatula. That is a small thing, but just a reminder that the best pleasures in life are often small and seemingly insignificant.

There was the joy brought to our home with a new pet.

Lastly, God showered me with provision by providing the funds for my trip to Thailand this October.  He really just took care of it for me and our whole team.  Tickets are to be purchased this week and I was feeling a little frantic that we would have our funding on time.  God called His people to rally and provide what we needed so very quickly.  It was a greater testimony to the truth that He is never late.  He is always on time and often answering in unexpected ways.  I’m so grateful to those  servants who are standing behind us.  It still seems so unreal.  I’ll never be able to fully explain how much I have missed Asia, and Thailand particularly. I’m just staring at my computer screen because there are just no words to communicate how I’m feeling.  You kind of have to come along for the ride to understand how much a place has been part of my story. I’m excited, but still a bundle of nerves about leaving my family home this trip. It’s a mom thing.

This is my good.  This is my fun.  This is certainly not random.
