June Is Busting Out All Over

June is busting out all over! The saplins’ are busting out with sap.

First week of June 2015

June is when I finally exhale a bit. The days are warm and bright. My garden is fully alive and productive. The corn is corning, berries are ripening, tomatoes are turning red, and the basil is plentiful.  We are looking forward to the benefits of harvest. My garden is most beautiful in June. Each year it surprises me and makes the wait worthwhile.

We kicked off June with Vacation Bible School and the young one’s 8th birthday. The sapling in the bottom left corner is growing into her High School self in many ways. Her social calendar is full and we are learning to manage the bottomless pit of opportunities to be social.  All of it is good stuff, so we are excited to let her enjoy those things. Anyone who has ever worried about homeschoolers and their socialization can rest assured that we have got it covered in spades.

We also ushered in summer with our first family trip to our local amusement park. I remember living at said park as a teen.  We had a mixed bag of reactions to the rides, but I believe our courage will muster as summer goes on. We did get a little braver than the carousel.  We highly encouraged Aidan, our 10 year old, to ride the stand up coaster for his first ride of the day and he lived to tell despite exclaiming that we were “all going to die” on the way up.

Yep, that’s my crazy hubby in blue. So proud. 🙂

Cruel Summer

Hot summer streets

And the pavements are burning

I sit around

Somebody was sulky because the neighborhood kids weren’t coming out to play much today. Granted it’s been raining for days and days.  Between rains the neighbors decided it was better to stay in and somebody was bored with that idea.

It’s a cruel, cruel summer. Leaving me here on my own.

But boredom is the mother of invention.

And ideas.

If we can turn around the summer doldrums with just this…

Jasper and popsicle 01-blog

I’m okay with it.

Backstory: I was looking for something to photograph in my garden, but real life became way more interesting. He totally sneaked off to nick a Popsicle and peeked back to see if I was still by the door. Of course I was waiting with baited lens. He eventually found someone to play with, too.

S-Summertime Gladness

2/3 of my children are finished with school! We surprisingly pulled out all the stops and got the boys completed by Thursday last week.  Gracyn has just a bit to finish up this week and then it’s onward to summertime.  It’s time to water our bodies with rest and refreshment.

And it is time to begin setting the course for the year to come, after I take a small breather from this year! I’m always so thankful to get to this place in the year.  May is hard, and busy… but also yummy in many ways as I gear up for the things to come!

First up: Shooting a very intimate wedding on Thursday!

Cheers to summer!

Currently.

Today is our first day of school!!!  I hope we are off to a great start.

Time was so short this week for personal planning so I spent all afternoon on Sunday trying to make it happen.  I got in a grocery trip, which is kind of a big deal.  I felt very accomplished to have food in the house.  Hubby even remarked that he hadn’t seen our fridge so full in such a long time.  I kind of winged grocery runs this summer.

I reviewed today’s lesson plans and tried to wrap my head around our new schedule.  We are doing some new things this year and I feel a bit lost.  However, I think it will be a good change once I get the hang of it.

So, today I am figuring this first day thing out.  The kids are figuring this first day thing out.  I hope they aren’t too disappointed to see summer break go.  I’m relieved.  I think.  Ask me after coffee.

To wrap summer up we:

Early August14

Became parents to a teen.  Started wearing makeup. Lost a tooth. Readied ourselves for school.

That’s our good.random.fun. for the end of summer 2014.

Upside Down

This is my last week of feeling upside down in the stressful sense.  In theory.

We are landing this homeschooling ship for the year on Friday, and I couldn’t be happier.  It’s not that I don’t love it.  It’s just time for a little more of…

It’s high time.

And as my mind begins to spread its wings

There’s no stopping curiosity.

One more week

I’m feeling frazzled.  We are entering our last week of summer break and I don’t feel that my summer tank is full.  We’ve been out of school almost 11 weeks and yet my bucket list remains a bit unchecked.

summer veggies

There haven’t been enough sunny days to make us feel sun-kissed.  There haven’t been enough of pool days, outings, cool drinks, ice cream, cookouts and the like.

I feel a little bit of panic with hoping I can fill up this last week with summer goodness.

And then there is part of me that is craving structure to our days.  Early rising. Productivity. Learning. Growing. Goals.  Too much flopping around leaves me feeling floppy.  I’m Jekyll and Hyde.

What are your last summer hurrahs?  Maybe you’ll give me an idea.

Here’s an idea! I would love for you to join the Little by Little community on Facebook.  Help LBL get to 500 likes! I may just have a giveaway planned for when that milestone happens as a thank you.

Today I’m joining Melissa!

This week, according to Instagram.

July 19

My summer is running out of time, and I’m starting to feel the panic of savoring summer to the fullest.  Two weeks.  Two weeks, people.  That’s all that’s left of summer 2013.

I’m not ready to start the slow slide into fall.

The sun came out again each day.  We had 4 full hours at the pool this week with friends, times two.   I mailed my financial support letters for my upcoming trip to Peru in September, and I got my renewed passport.  I’m cleared to travel once again.

I was tempted by mint Oreos.  Temptation won.  The rains came back like a boss.  Sunday night dinner of pesto pasta for 3 weeks in a row.

I ordered a reflector the size of Texas.   We ate Jimmy John’s for lunch without Daddy.   I made Catherine’s Tomato Tart and it was fabulous!  I used heirloom tomatoes from my garden. Heavenly!

Have a great weekend, friends!
