Little Things Thursday

Is it New Year’s Eve already? 2015 has blown by. I feel as if I’m still catching my breath for this year that was.

I know it is time for all our resolutions and Word of the Year stuff. This year, I’m not really doing that. I love goals, don’t get me wrong.  I just think that I’m still learning last year’s lessons. I’ll adjust my sails accordingly, but I think I’m going to camp out awhile on last year’s resolution to pause to enjoy life and to follow God as He continues the work He has begun in me this year. I found 2015 to be a rather difficult year, but gosh did I learn! I think I’ll always struggle with the same old things, but I gained a fresh perspective on moving forward.

Some things haven’t changed.  I still love doing this.

In 2015, I picked up the expensive film habit. Though the above is my trusted DSLR. The film bit is just for me, at present. I love the freedom to please myself with my work.  I love the way it allows me to be in a moment.  I love the way it teaches me to be a better photographer by both my successes and failures such as getting a whole roll of blank black and white film back from the lab because I didn’t load properly. I’m still grieving those shots.

I’m continuing on in my business. I’m expanding my circles and seeking to connect with those who truly value photography from click to finished product.

I’m going to shoot knowing that not everyone will like what I shoot. That I’ll be compared, critiqued, and ignored.  And that is okay. It’s kind of the artist way, isn’t it? I won’t let opinion paralyze me.

Hey, look. I guess I made a few resolutions after all. And I resolve to try harder to blog more in 2016.  The last half of 2015 just could not be kept up with. But I resolve to live to create, not create to live. Some of you really inspire that notion in me. So thank you for that!

Happy New Year Y’all! I look forward to genuine connections in this coming year! Thank you for joining me each week for Little Things Thursday!

Dance with me, I want to be your partner

Can’t you see the music is just starting

Dance withe me

Sunday I had the honor of photographing this 30 year strong couple. They truly are the happiest, most loving people I know.

They are the definition of blessed.

One of their passions in their semi-empty nest years is ballroom dancing.  I asked them to give me a little demonstration of their favorite moves while standing in this field.

They more than happily obliged me.

Little Things Thursday

Welcome to Little Things Thursday! Today, I’m sharing a little BIG thing.  I don’t do weddings often, but when I do there is always something special about it that leads me to say yes.  It’s usually a personal connection.  This wedding was one I could not turn down.  I won’t share all the personal details, but this wedding was definitely a GOD story.

The Bride and Groom chose a quite spot by an old mill to exchange their vows. The ceremony was the two of them, the minister, and me as photographer. Except, there were a couple people fishing across the stream who gave a loud cheer when it was time to kiss the bride. It was adorable! This day was perfectly perfect.

I’m so honored to have documented the joining of these two in Holy Matrimony.

More shares will be coming soon on my business site next week!

How’s your week?

I’ve been waiting for these scans since late March.  First, I had to finish the roll, send them in to The Find Lab, and then wait for the scans.  I admit that it is hard to wait on results.  The upside is that scan day is a bit like Christmas Day every single time.  There are always those shots that are the things on your Christmas list and shots that are like socks and underwear under the tree. Both make up the whole Christmas package.

The keepers, though…worth it!

Cherry Blossoms

I adore cherry blossom season and sadly those brief days have already come to an end here in Georgia. It’s like a small miracle every spring! The Miracle we are waiting for.  I sure was thankful that I found this little gem on my latest roll of film!

Little Things Thursday

Good Morning Little Things Thursday Friends!  I’m sharing another sneak peek from my recent Newsies inspired session with Aidan and our neighbor.  I’m almost through this session, but had a few things come up this week that have kept me from being able to complete the set.  One of those things being strep throat hitting our house. Sickness always trumps routine, but I think we have a handle on it.  At least we are well-equipped with prescriptions if the strep starts to spread.

But anyhoo…I really enjoyed this session with these two chaps.  They were just the right age to ham it up. Not a self-conscious bone in either one.

Newsies

I have two film rolls currently in development and I am eager to get those back. I’ll be sharing those soon of anything comes out of those rolls.

Meanwhile, let’s see what you’ve been shooting!

Newsies

I have been making a conscious effort to get my middle child in front of my lens.  He has always sort of run from the camera because he had better things to do than pose.  Most of my images of him are candid, but I really wanted some wall art of him to go along with what I have of the others.  His face reminds me a bit of the typical street urchin from various movies so I decided to do a Newsies session with him.  My neighbor just so happens to be the very talented photographer, Sasha Holloway.  She let me bring her son along as a second Newsie.  These two kids play together and are photographers kids so they were going to know the drill pretty well.

Newsies

I’m just at the tip of the editing iceberg, but I do have a little sneak of their session. They were total naturals.  I’ll have more to share soon on my Facebook page Kim Cunningham Photography and my business website.

This was such a fun little session!

Own Every Second

The Only Way You Can Know, You Give It All You Had.

Woodland Musician

Woodland Musician

Own every second. Unrelentingly.

These images are from my latest photo shoot with a darling little budding violinist. Watching her play in the woodlands during our session is a great reminder of beginnings. The journey to mastery is long and arduous at times, but continuing on is what counts. Every Twinkle Twinkle is building up to something greater.

Growth comes in small steps and stages.

It comes in refusal to give-up.  It comes with vision.

It comes from spending ourselves and not being distracted by the temporal things. In other words, sacrifice.

It may be exhausting, but the rewards are sweet.

Carry On…

Office Vignettes

This past weekend I called a semi-time out.  I desperately needed time to just take care of needs that I had waiting in the wings. The sigh of January had not yet been embraced and it was time that I just exhaled after the rush of the year’s end.

I often exhale by ordering personal spaces.  I came into a few birthday bucks and I decided to spend them sprucing up my work space since I live there and will continue to live there for the future as far as I can see.  Why not make it enjoyable?

I added some living things.

I made light an option by layering blackout curtains over sheers. This allows me to edit any time of day without glare.  I feel this will increase daytime productivity and allow the evening to belong to my family. *fingers crossed*

Craft supplies were housed in drawers.

Shelves were arranged.

SO everything is not quite spic and span, yet.  However, this is my space.  Can you see it?

Soon, all things will be put in order. My catch all cork-board betrays the way I have been living in here.

I’m thankful for beginnings like the New Year which allow us to refocus and move forward. This was a good pause for me. My private space needed attention. It needed tending and love to encourage me in the years that lie ahead.  It declares that I trust God for the things He has given me today. That those things are a gift and have purpose. That I have purpose. This pause helps me to follow.
