Nikon upgrade

If you listen closely, you can hear a choir of angels sing.

My dear, thoughtful husband upgraded my Nikon to a d800!  I loved (love) my Nikon d90, and I milked that camera for everything it was worth.  I pushed it as far as it could carry me, and it was time for an upgrade to fit my growing needs.  I will continue to use my sweet d90 as a second body.  Jack bought me the camera as a surprise.  He teased me mercilessly for a week about having bought me a surprise, and then gave it to me Wednesday evening.

I’m over the moon!

Nikon d800 focustest

There are so many things to set up.  There is the novel of a manual to read.  But, I’m already loving a full-frame camera, the higher ISO, and the 51 focal points! I need a faster SD card and am in the process of getting one before I can really get to testing.

I’m holding my breath, just a bit, regarding the tales of focus issues with this model, and I’m praying that my camera is fine.  This upgrade was long awaited, so I just want it to be perfect.

I’m so very grateful to have this upgrade.  If there are any d800 users reading here, I’d love to hear any tips and comments about your experience.

No way! How incredibly exciting! Just be sure you don’t accidentally hit the exposure compensation button. ;) So many new buttons to figure out when one gets a new camera!

  4. I am so excited for you! I hope you live it as much as I love mine. I haven’t had any focus issues that weren’t due to operator error ;) I do shoot lossless compressed RAW to save space and I use San Disc Extreme cards. The 16 MB usually but I also have 32. And the CF cards for the 2nd slot are expensive so I only have one of those so far, it was $50 and the CF card readers are like $200 so I don’t even have one of those. I use the USB if I need to but generally only use the CF for events so I can shoot Jpeg+RAW for backup.
Only negative is that processing files does take longer, and the FPS aren’t as high as some cameras, but those have not been big problems for me so far.

Have fun exploring with it! Congrats and kudos to your hubbie! Good man. :)

  5. 51 focal points…get out!!! NO FAIR!! Just kidding…very happy for you. You will never have an excuse for a photo to be out of focus now♥

I am so happy for you!!!! That is so very exciting. When I told my hubs he said he wouldn’t even know where to start if he wanted to buy me anything in that department. So nice that your hubs knew exactly what to get.

I can only imagine how over-the-moon excited you must be. I previously shot with a d40 and my husband surprised me two years ago with a d7000. i’ve only recently started thinking about upgrading to a full-frame camera. Its tough though … there are a few new lenses I want to buy as well, I’ll just have to be patient and mark them off one-by-one. Anyway, congratulations!! i can’t wait to hear more about it!! yay!!

  14. OOh totally jealous I would love a Nikon D800 or 700. I have a D5100 and while it is great and I love it, a full frame would be amazing!
