Welcome back to Little Things Thursday, though I rename it Stressful Things Thursday this week.
Does anyone else have baking disasters at Christmas? I’m normally adept in a kitchen, but I just couldn’t get it right yesterday.
These cookies were my last hope in a series of mishaps. Thankfully, they turned out fine.
I had big hopes of making some mint chocolate chip cookies with green dough. They actually taste great, but when they baked, the cookie browned leaving the green dough to be a sort of pukey green. Not a pleasing, jolly green. Not very attractive for blog posts.
Next, I decided to make some thumbprint cookies with sugar cookie dough. The dough was amazing.
However, the icing that I wanted to put in the thumbprint was not. I used a recipe that called for powdered sugar, milk, and softened butter. The butter would not blend! There were little butter blobs all in the icing. I tossed that and started over.
Then, I didn’t have enough powdered sugar for the next batch, so the icing was runny and wouldn’t set. Ugh.
On a whim, I decided to taste the baked sugar cookies that had no icing. And-I-tasted-soap!! What the what…???
Apparently, my silpat liners had Dawn residue on them. I.kid.you.not.
I was utterly dejected. Waste was running amuck. And, I needed a blog post.
I still had tons of sugar cookie dough to bake. I, thankfully, had some Christmas sprinkles in the pantry. I rolled sugar cookie balls and pressed the tops into the sprinkles. I baked those and they were good.
Looks like I am going to have to go back to the
drawing Pinterest board for the rest of my Christmas baking.
I am hoping round two is a little less comical.
Ok…make me smile with your photos! I need cheering up.
