While we were on our trip we received an excited text announcing the arrival of Wallace, the song sparrow.  The eggs we found a few weeks ago were beginning to hatch.

In fact, we received updates the entire time we were traveling…and a video.  A certain girl was excited.  Cupcake was born two days later.

There were five eggs.  Two have hatched.  One has disappeared.  Two remain, and are probably blighted.

Gracyn has a habit of naming the birds one man-child name, and one cutesy name like Greg and Morning Glory of a couple years ago.  Sadly, Wallace (the bigger bird) was found unresponsive today. A funeral was in order to help our tender-hearted bird lover cope.  We hope to see Cupcake flourish and fledge soon.

We hope for a spring miracle that brings the remaining eggs to life.  Here is to hope!

What are you capturing this spring?

  17. I’m so jealous . . . .

What a beautiful photo, both the photo and the sweet innocence of new life, although sad that one has disappeared! I got slammed right after I liked up with our current life stuff and didn’t get a chance to leave a comment. Then I had to go to the doctor which was another epic visit and when I finally got home I found a wandering caterpillar on the floor? I have NO idea how the little devil got out, but he wasn’t in good shape. We haven’t had our house sprayed for bugs in years but I’ll bet there is still residue that could hard them. He is still alive this morning, but not looking great, we’ll see.

    Have a glorious weekend!
