Little Things Thursday

Do your kids love airports?  Mine sure do. Our little thing this week was getting to go pick up my husband from the airport.  There is something about walking around an airport with all the energy you see in travelers that makes a little kid excited.

I remember so well, and even way beyond my childhood years was this feeling present.

Pre-9/11 of course.

I remember the days before this age of tight security when we could ride the concourses and just walk around. My husband and I even had little dates at the airport way before marriage and kids where we would just walk the airport and try to find the most outlandish destinations at the gates.  There was something about the feeling of going that made one long for an adventure.

No big adventure in this airport trip, but the kids still love going in to welcome their daddy home.

I’m getting a little excited for my adventure in two months!

In Germany airports are only by a few large cities. Have not known as a child … adventure for me were of a different kind
But we have a steam railway, that I have always loved.

  8. How fun! I have not been in an airport since my babies were actually babies. The hubs usually finds someone else to take him & I’m usually just dropping off or picking up outside. Since 9/11 we really haven’t been able to go wait at the gate so we just don’t even go in anymore. I forgot about all those feelings you get of anticipation & excitement you mentioned. So fun for them!

  9. Great shot ~ very creative and adorable children ~ Airports used to be fun to me but not any more after 9/11 ~ Love to travel but such tight security has made it less fun and less fun to walk around airports ~ c’est la vie ~ Enjoy the weekend ~ ^_^

  10. I never would have thought about airports as a fun destination in and of themselves, but I love that you all do! That’s really sweet and makes for a great story. I love things like that. 🙂

  11. So many airports. And stories. MY KIDS LOVE airports – always have – still do….all grown up! The only two scary airports were Cairo and Jerusalem…and that’s going back a good 15 years or so. I’m so glad when we were doing the international travel thing with our kids, airports were very relaxed, friendly places….good for crawling, climbing, running, snacking and hugging grandparents! We had as much fun traveling as a family as we did once we got where we were going. Oh – and the HUGE / FREE / MULTIPLE suitcases we were allowed to lug around with us…what would I have done without that luxury??!!!

    • It’s fun to think about all the stories that come with travel. I have so many! I use to say that many would make good Seinfield episodes with the random things that happened. I can recall one flight to Taiwan where an older lady slapped her husband pretty much all the way across the ocean. Poor guy. The time we had the “is there a doctor on board?’ . The flight that smelled of rotten fish…a long haul flight… and much more! Good times!

  13. I like certain airports… others, not so much. I love the ‘idea’ of airports, though, in general. I love the hustle and bustle, I love the idea of journeys, of anticipation.

  17. The airport has definitely lost it’s excitement for me. Now, it’s just a stressful waiting game. I do remember the good times. 😉

  18. Airports do hold a certain intrigue. They are always great for reunions, too!
