Little Things Thursday

Well, Little Things Thursday Friends.  Here we are again. It seems that Thursday comes so quickly, which proves my theory that this summer was way to0 fast.

I’ve slowly moved from denial to acceptance regarding school’s imminent start. The school room has been tidied.  Supplies have been purchased.

Now, I am busy trying to figure out exactly how to implement it all.

We are beginning a new writing program called Institute For Excellence in Writing (IEW) this year and I’m really excited about that. I’m still figuring out what this program entails. But, at least I am putting together folders and plans.  My daughter is still doing Sonlight, but our boys just need a year to work on specializing in a few subjects. This year will be very Language Arts intensive for them.  Loads of writing will be on the menu.

I am really looking forward to the benefits of giving ourselves permission to do exactly what we need. I can tend to be a “do it all” person and that’s just not going to work this year in our schooling.  I want this year to be purposeful in how we educate our children.  It always has been, but I’m giving myself a little more wiggle room than I have in the past.   Slow and steady is my motto.

So, yeah…I’m feeling a little more grounded about summer’s end.

How’s your summer?

  1. Oh yeah, time flies so fast!
It must be good to live in a free country where you can give children homeschooling – unthinkable in Germany. Some parents struggle years of hopeless struggle, they will be criminalized if they do not send children to school …
Wish you good luck and free time for you, with this all 🙂

Have a little bit playing with my photos…

  2. So exciting – I can’t wait to see what the year has. The new school I am working at has a major writing focus and a very fun program with acronyms to help kids frame their writing. So much to do!

Along with Germany (after reading Mascha’s comment), I recently learned homeschooling is not allowed in France either (with few exceptions and a load of requirements and paperwork). It’s so interesting the differing school schedules… my son is only in his second week of summer break. So as beautiful and impeccably organized and colorful your kiddo’s desks are, it’s a bit hard for me to swallow right now 😉

  4. I’m not a homeschooler, but I think you’ve got the right attitude (a valuable one for life in general!).

  5. I want to work on my writing this year too! When I see your school posts, I just want to come join in!!

  6. Can you believe it! It’s almost over 🙁 I swear summer just started. So we are doing the same thing this year. I’m down to two! My boys have graduated from our little homeschool and let me tell you! Colleges LOVE US (homeschoolers that is) – So here is to doing what we need and working hard on Enlgish. I’m going to check out that program for my rising third grader.

  8. I love your work space. I think that the whole point of what we are doing is to give our kids the attention they are needing in just the right areas. You are on the right track & doing well for your children. That’s the best part about homeschooling- we choose what is needed based on each child. Isn’t it great?!

  9. I love your attitude about giving your children exactly what they need. I’ve heard about IEW, but don’t know that much about it. I haven’t even started thinking about school stuff yet. But we don’t start until at least September…sometimes October. The weather is just too nice here in those months (and rainy through June…)

  10. oh you are miles and miles ahead of me Kim! Bless you! I just started to clean out books and papers from our end! (too much on my plate as usual) I need to get in gear! This week is VBS, next week is summer camp for my son and ANOTHER VBS . . . maybe in a couple of weeks I can actually open the school room door again (hee hee)

  11. Oh my goodness don’t be talking about school already!! Summer only just started, right? Right? Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s only still March, isn’t it? God this year is flying by. Anyway, good luck with the planning!
