Little Things Thursday

Welcome back to Little Things Thursday! I’m sorry I missed last week while on vacation, but I truly lost track of the days of the week during our week away.

We had a great time resting up before the school year begins on Monday. We’ve actually had a very full summer with little joys that make beginning a new school year a little more palatable. It’s important to enter the new year with a full tank, don’t you agree?

I’m still editing some of our vacation images, but here are 3 that I’ve had time to fiddle with.

Jasper by pool 01-750

G at the beach 01-750

Aidan on flamingo 01-750

I did way better using Instagram for capturing most of our adventures. I’m always scared to bring my dSLR to the pool or beach. I’m looking into getting waterproof housing for the next trip.

In other news…this week will be our last Little Things Thursday… While I’m really sad to let it go, it is time. It’s been a great 4 years hosting this linky and I have come to adore so many of you who faithfully join in each week. I’m still going to blog, but I’m realizing that having set themes to shoot for, set days to post and link, and such is getting harder and harder for me to keep up with. I want to be fair to all of you and I feel badly that I haven’t been able to link up with some of you hosting your own parties. Without hosting my own party, I may be able to join in more.

I have been agonizing over this decision for about 6 months, but was unwilling to throw up the white flag because I have enjoyed this highlight of the week so much. However, my kiddos are getting older and their needs, surprisingly, are increasing.  There are way more carpool trips and activities than ever. With one child just 3 short years away from college, I need to focus on getting her ready to launch. Also, because of college, I need to spend time growing my photography biz to help support those college fees. The two boys are homeschooling at 4th to 6th grade levels which can also require a lot of me and them.  The writing has been on the wall for awhile, but I was too stubborn to accept what I saw. I’m finally accepting the limitations before me and the end of summer just feels like a nice time to wrap things up.

So, while I still intend to blog, it has to be organic by fitting in with the rhythm of our days. I’ve blogged 10+ years now, and this blog feels like a sacred journal of sorts, so I’m not ready to give it up just yet!

I’m so thankful for micro-blogging tools like Instagram that does help me stay connected with many of you who truly have become dear to me over the years. I’ll still be keeping up with you in all formats that I can.

Thank you all for the amazing support you have given to me and this linky over the years. I’m truly grateful for your friendships, inspiring posts and work!

I do have some fun stuff coming up this fall, so I hope to still see you around the blogosphere, IG, and other places!

**edit** Tamar of Random-osity has graciously agreed to continue hosting Little Things Thursday over on her blog! So, please join her next week and let’s keep this party going. Thank you Tamar!

For one last time, let’s link up below…

  2. Saying goodbye to a good thing is always hard. But all these added responsibilites for the kids make it worthwhile! Great that you are not totally disappear from blogland! Wishing you much patience, wisdom and stamina:):)

  3. Oh, I am sorry you won’t do the linky party anymore but I understand completely. I am very busy too and can’t blog as much as I’d like to. I honestly don’t understand how some ladies can do it all, post almost daily quality photos of their perfectly looking house and clean kids. I so wish I could do it too. 😛

  5. I used to LOVE doing what Jasper is doing -sitting on the mini-waterfall.

So sad to see one of my favorite linkys closings–but totally understand.

  6. As the years go by life changes, needs start filling in the gaps that we once held for other things. It happens- don’t feel bad. I will miss seeing the weekly wrap-up here each Thursday. But since I subscribe I know I won’t miss a thing when you do post. Of course, we have our connections in other places so that makes it easier to stay up to date on what’s happening. It’s been so fun having this link party over the years. I’m so grateful it brought us together & closer. Here’s to fun new things! I said in the spring that this was the year for new journeys – looks like it didn’t just apply to me. 🙂 It’s exciting my friend!

  8. While I hate to see this link party bid us farewell, I certainly can appreciate the reasons. We do what we must to strike the level of balance. Best of luck to you as we travel towards the closure of another year and venture towards new beginnings. Love your captures, as always.

  9. I so completely understand that as the kids get older their need for me increases…I’m feeling it, too. And I’m right there with you about evaluating how blogging fits into my life.

So happy Tamar is taking over! She’s the perfect person to continue Little Things…

Hope your school year gets off to a good start. I still have a month left of summer, but am starting to plan for our school year.

  10. All the best to you and your family, Kim, as the school year starts and you continue to grow your photography business. Thanks for hosting this link party so faithfully. I’m always impressed that you comment on my posts — I know that takes so much time and effort and I appreciate it. And it’s helped me get to know you across the miles. I’m sure we will connect with Tamar’s link parties (yay for Tamar!!!) and I’ll keep up with your blog and your adorable kids. God bless you, my friend!

  11. Bye Bye and thank your for this blog-party.
I hope “we run our times elsewhere on the way”, so said in German: wir laufen uns woanders über den Weg!

  12. That’s too bad since I just discovered you, but totally understandable. Maybe someone else can take it over? You all look like you did a good job chilling out before the school year rat race begins.

  13. I am just coming here Kim… I totally get your time commitment and working blogging around your family. 😀 I say… GOOD FOR YOU!! I just launched one, and am beginning our senior year for my second. This will be our last year of homeschool. Looking back 4th through 12th went by so very fast. You will never regret giving this up to be with your kids more. I am sending you great big cyber hugs, and I can’t wait to stop by every now and then to see what you are up to. Until then, Instagram it is.

PS thanks for hosting all these years, I have actually thought about closing Life Thru the Lens as well for the very same reasonings. I really appreciate your commitment to this small community. Your Little Things Thursday will be missed for sure. Yay for Tamar though.

  14. I’m late to the party . . . and sad to hear you’re giving it up . . . but glad to hear you’ll still be blogging! Looking forward to keeping in touch!

  15. Hi Kim, I’ve really enjoyed linking up here on Thrusday’s. It’s given me reason to actually post. I don’t know how Tamar does it!!! yeah Tamar! I’m in the process myself of trying to figure out which direction I can manage my blogging. I love it…I do, and I don’t want it to become a chore. Isn’t it amazing as children get older, you’re needed even more. Can I just tell you, it never goes away! As my youngest son turns 21 next week, he is realizing he still needs us to guide him. I’m happy to be needed. I’m sticking around here tho…to see what’s new!

  16. Oh Kim, I’ve been away too long… so sad that your Thursday Linkups are stopping, but I completely understand. I’ve discovered some of the most wonderful blogs/bloggers though it. Thank you for having hosted faithfully for so long. I can’t begin to think about the amount of time and energy I’ll need when my eldest enters high school (Gah is right!). All the best with Gracyn’s preparations!
