Little Things Thursday

The rains came back today and with them came the inevitability of our homeschool’s imminent beginning.  Rather than sulk summer’s end, I channeled my energy into finishing those loose getting-ready-for-school-ends.

I’m slowly swallowing the pill of acceptance.

School prep

Sharpened pencils were set out. Week one daily workbaskets were readied.  Clipboards were donned with plans.

School prep

Meals begged to be planned.  Chore charts mocked the children.  Robot bookmarks reported for duty.  The writing on the wall mocked me.

School prep

Prayer Owl Candles were lit.   Stickers were unearthed and laid out.  Beezus recommitted herself to climb on the desks and resume her plots to distract the learners.

I think I heard her cackle with self-satisfaction.

Next stop, First Day of School on Monday!

August just cut summer off at the knees around here, so bring summer to me below.

  1. I was at Wally World the other day and walked the school supply aisles to check out what was new this year. My kids are 32 and 29, but I have always loved the idea of new school supplies. I’m in awe of you and other homeschooling parents — what a gift you are giving to your children. 🙂

  4. With my first (and only) child on the way, I’m seriously considering homeschooling. I know I’m several years ahead of myself, but I’m the type of person who likes to have a plan.

  5. I read about rain and I thought that we need it so much. I love how you wrote about a pill of acceptance. That is beautiful expression. I think you prepared for the school beautifully. The pencils were sharpened so nicely and photographed so wonderfully that I can’t take my eyes from them. And I am totally in love with this black beauty with huge fantastic eyes. She is gorgeous.

  6. I love these images. What a beautiful space you have created to encourage learning. I’m sorry you are sad about the rain. We are actually expecting some & looking forward to it. That’s what 13 years in the desert will do to a person 🙂

    Hugs!!

  7. Wow, you guys start early. Kudos for being so disciplined and organized,.. I don’t think I could ever homeschool –not because I don;t want to, but because I don’t believe I have the discipline.

  8. I love the school bell. I have one very similar that was a gift from a friend of the family. We are nowhere near ready to call an end to summer. We don’t go back to school till September.

  11. well, you are way ahead of me (but I have two more weeks to get in the right mindset – yo! Right?) I actually did clean out all the old curriculum last week – clean the school room – which you would never be able to tell as the children have destroyed it already! I think having a school room / play room is NOT a good idea! However, I DID complete some syllabi last night!! Woot woot!

  12. We are gearing up for school next week too. We did a very light schedule this summer after bringing Havi home to get ourselves prepared for full days with a toddler at our heels. So we’ve been getting our schoolwork feet wet, so to speak. But I also feel like I haven’t finished enjoying summer yet because we weren’t home for 3 weeks right smack in the middle of it. Ugh. Anyway, I have set my expectations/goals very low for this fall. So we’re sure to have a successful term. lol

Your school room looks awesome, BTW. I still haven’t organized mine since we moved last Dec. Yep, we did our spring work in a less than ideal environment. I really need to get my act in gear, stat.

  14. Oh I can’t even believe you are starting back to school on Monday….you are so organized….I need you here at my house, pronto! 😉

  15. I love the feeling of “readiness” your pictures says. Sharp pencils, colours and all. Maybe because I’m a teacher my self and always love to get my classroom ready for the children to arrive. I have to say I do admire everyone for taking on home teaching.
    All the best!

  17. What a bright and beautiful learning space you’ve created! Now I understand why your summer was shorter than ours… All the very best this upcoming school year for Mama teacher and her students 🙂

  18. Oh, it feels to soon for it to be school!
Here we don’t start until after Labor Day in early September.
We’re just starting to get a few school supply lists.
Love your photos & classroom – your class looks like fun! 🙂

(We were out of town, up on Canadian water boundaries, and without internet service this week.. I’m late in joining the link up!)
