Little Things Thursday

This spring has been all about finding the little things in life that bring joy.  Spring has been exceptionally pretty and restorative to me this year.

Finding beauty and life right around me has kept my perspective from tanking in the harder moments of life. And there have been a few stressful days.  Overall, I’ve been encouraged by the prospects of things to come in the months ahead. In someways it feels like a turning of the tide. Some call it HOPE! I think I’m calling it GRACE.

It doesn’t hurt that summer is just two weeks away… Oh the bliss of slow mornings and relaxed days.

Little Things Thursday

Happy Little Things Thursday! Hope you guys are having a great week. The weather is looking up here as we finally hit the 80’s and I think those temps may be here to stay!

In other words…basically summer. I couldn’t be happier about that.

In summer’s honor, beach photographs!

I love these idyllic images that I can go back to when I need a little escape from reality, which may not be too far off in the end of the school year rush. 4 weeks til summer!

What are you shooting this week?

Little Things Thursday

Welcome back to Little Things Thursday, where we share our little moments of life through image and words. This week has been all about catching up and getting back into routines since spring break. Needless to say, I’m behind on last week’s blog entries. But. I will be going back to visit soon!

I still have a slew of photographs to edit this weekend from our trip. I’m looking forward to revisiting those shots because it has been gray and chilly here most of the week. Warm, sunny beaches are far better, in my opinion.

I’ve edited just one personal photograph.

Our family had just visited a replica exhibit on the water of the ships Nina and Pinta. We were surprised at how small they actually were. Afterwards, we drove over to Peace River Wildlife Center and found these mangroves. It’s funny because these beaches are what I would expect Columbus an his gang to wash up on. They just have that look. Or maybe caskets of rum and pirates, whichever.

The mangroves and quite beach nooks were serene and so enjoyable to explore. I have several photographs from our walk through this area, coming up soon!

How’s your week been?

Florida Filled

We are back from spring break with full tanks and hearts. We desperately needed every ounce of this trip.

You know those times where you feel like you are living on just fumes? That was us. The last year has been a season of pillar to post living.

We needed extended down time where we could truly relax and not think about anything else other than enjoying time with family. My husband’s family was so gracious to love on us well, and show us a great week. We realized, at some point, that this was our very first spring break vacation as a family. We are fans!

I documented the highlights on Instagram. I tried to tone down the volume of posts, but I gave myself permission to just enjoy capturing for the sake of loving to freeze moments.

Gasparilla Island State Park in Boca Grande is my new favorite Florida beach. Bea-u-ti-ful. The water is gorgeous and the beaches are densely filled with shells and shark’s teeth to the delight of my kids.

SB 2016 04

Exploring Peace River Wildlife Center in Punta Gorda was another favorite. The mangroves here are impressive and there are little private nooks to enjoy along the coast.  We had the little cove above to ourselves. The kids hunted for crabs, which were plentiful among the mangrove roots.

SB 2016 05

We loved Gasparilla so much that we decided to close out our time with a third visit. The boys had spent a few mornings on their grandpa’s fishing boat while we ladies enjoyed these beautiful beaches without them, so we knew we had to let them experience Gasparilla before leaving. We informed them that they could fish AND enjoy the beach, so poles were packed. Jack caught a Jack (Pompano) roughly minutes after casting the first line. Human Jack is now a fan of fishing off the beach and vows to never go to the beach again without a rod. Fish Jack lived to see another day, due to being caught on our last day and not having adequate cooler space to keep him fresh. Under other circumstances he would be dinner.

SB 2016 06

The days were filled with good food, beaches, shark teeth hunting, shell collecting, wading, boogie boarding, fishing, morning and evening swims in the grandparent’s pool, and more! The days were full, but restful. We are thankful that we were invited to come take up space for the week with family. Thankful are we for these memories that our three will carry with them. There is nothing quite like remembering childhood family vacations.

Of course, I have other images on my real camera coming up soon! Thanks for sharing the joy of our experiences!

February Instagrams

The last day of February always feels like a turning of a corner. March is a bit fickle, but at least it’s a short stretch to spring.

Here is a look at our February, which was a bit short on Instagramming.

Feb 29-2016 Feb 29-2-2016

It was a month of donuts, fur babies, warm drinks, and good food. Oh, and the school play that went completely uncaptured.  There was not one moment for me to even get an Instagram shot due to also volunteering to help behind the scenes. I’m really sad about that, but I now know that I need to get costume shots before the play. Live and learn.

I’m currently trying to manage two IG accounts and would love for you to join me on one or both! You can find me personally at kim_littlebylittle and professionally at kimcunninghamphoto. Let’s connect!

Little Things Thursday

It’s been a solid week of constant driving and play rehearsals around here.  I’ve already put in 6 hours in the car by Wednesday, so there hasn’t been much time for much else.

Everyone is a little tired, and afternoon downtime is a treasure to behold.

after rehearsal 02-750

Tomorrow, the kids head over to the theater for their first stage rehearsal and with just a week to go before the curtains go up for the opening night. This Pick-A-Little Lady is has put in some hours rehearsing songs and staging the numbers.

We are looking forward to seeing it all come together.  I’ve purposely held off listening to any of the songs or reading any lines because I want the experience to be fresh when we finally see it.

How’s your week?

Senoia Coffee Cafe with the Boys

This past Friday the boys and I decided to go for a hot chocolate date during the hour my daughter spends in math tutoring.  I realized that an hour spent pent up in the car, in a packing lot, was just not a good fit for two active boys. Furthermore, two bored and ansty boys are not a good fit for this Mama.  Know what I mean?

We have a couple fun outings nearby that we can totally see in a hour. This week it was the Senoia Coffee Cafe, also known by Hollywood as Woodbury Coffee House.

We ordered a couple hot chocolates and a mocha for Mama. No zombies on the menu, today.

Gosh, I love coffee shop light! Who wants a coffee shop session?

Sipping hot drinks quietly only lasts about 3 seconds, so we took our cups on the go. Our boys do not watch The Walking Dead, but since it is still fun to see the filming area, we walked a few paces over to where the sets sit behind a barricade.

downtown senoia-walking dead set 04-750

We tried to use the big rocks across from the sets to peer over the wall, but no such luck for we three shorties. There are signs nearby that say, “No, Nope. Not you. Don’t even think about it.”

Well, not exactly those words, but those sentiments.  The security guards basically look the same way. But anyway, there it is behind the wall.

I think filming ended in the fall, so not much is happening here currently.  The last activity I can recall was the odd catering tent set up last October on the way to school drop off.

I love this wall of rocks in the area and always have, so we grabbed a couple shots.

And then our hour out and about ended. We had five minutes to spare to make pick up for my daughter.

It was a short and sweet way to kick off the weekend.

In the goal

A recent film scan…

jasper soccer-p40035-01

Portra 400 rated 200 on 35mm

October 2015

The boys are so ready for soccer season to start up again. We have roughly 5 weeks to go before they can hit the pitch. Santa brought them new gear that they are so excited about sporting. There will be new soccer bags, funky soccer socks, new balls and etc…

I’m sure we will freeze through the first few weeks of practices and games, per the usual spring start.

I just love this stifled smile above caught on film. Too cool for school.

Last Friday I took my 40+ year old Minolta out for more film work and became frustrated by the continual sticking of the shutter causing me to loose frames. Film is too costly to throw frames away like that, so I found another newer model Minolta (1980’s) and purchased it.  I’m going to see if I can get the 1960’s model serviced because I really do like the camera, when it works.

Happy Monday, Friends!
